Now it’s time to share your project in class and on the blog.
Presentation
On April 26, 1:45p–4:45p, we will meet in the Kleinman Center. You will have 10 minutes for your presentation and 10 minutes for questions. Then, we will use the remaining class time for some post-project/last-day-of-classes celebrating with our OIT visitors!
I will send out a link to sign-up for presentation order via Canvas. Please submit to Canvas any slides or videos by 1p on the 26th. Or, if you’re using Google Slides, post it next to your name on the sign-up sheet. I will have all the slides loaded and ready to go at 1:30p. Please check in with me before class starts to make sure that your presentation is working and ready to go. Do not email me slides right as class is launching or during class.
In your presentation, please include:
- Your project title
- The elevator pitch for your project, including: the larger urban problem that you are responding to and why your project addresses this problem (~ 2 min)
- A brief overview of the diagram (~2 min)
- A little more detail on your project. Including a brief discussion of your personas. You might include more technical details, if you feel like it helps make your project proposal most compelling. be sure to discuss how your project would scale up — in your demonstration you focus on one site, but what is the logic of where you would put it next? (~2 min)
- A live demo and/or video of your project working (~3 min)
- Conclusion (~1 min)
Even though your elevator pitch is brief, providing the reasons why your project is important is critical. You might be tempted to rush into the the details of the project, but don’t do it. Every time you present a project, you must grab the audience and interest them in the why of your project, and then they will care about the how. (Here’s a smart TED talk on that subject — worth the 18 minutes of your time.)
Blog
By midnight (11:59p) on May 5, you will share your project with a larger audience through a blog post.
Using one of your group member’s blog accounts, create a post with your diagram and video demonstrating your project. You must upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo before embedding in it the blog, otherwise the page won’t load properly. (To embed: upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo, and then copy and paste the video link into the blog post.) You may also post any additional text or materials that your group wishes to include so you can proudly share the link with your friends and/or future employers.
Follow the instructions you used for posting your tutorial, with one change: please check the Projects box in the Categories menu.
Also, please include the names of everyone in your group.
Congratulations on finishing your project!
